What is Candle Sand?
Candle Sand is a loose, pourable wax made from small pearled wax granules. Instead of being permanently poured into one container like a traditional candle, Candle Sand can be placed into a suitable heat-resistant vessel, fitted with a cotton wick and lit.
This gives you the freedom to create your own candle displays and change the vessel whenever you want.
Is Candle Sand the same as normal candle wax?
No. Traditional candles are usually melted and poured into a fixed container or mould. Candle Sand remains loose and pourable, which makes it easy to restyle, refresh and reuse.
What does Candle Sand look like?
Our Candle Sand consists of small white pearled wax granules with a soft, clean appearance. The texture is similar to very fine decorative beads or coarse sugar.
Is Candle Sand also known as pearled wax or wax sand?
Yes. Products of this type may also be described as pearled candle wax, wax sand, sand candles, candle wax granules or powdered candle wax.
How to Use Candle Sand
How do you use Candle Sand?
Using Candle Sand is simple:
- Choose a suitable heat-resistant candle vessel.
- Pour the Candle Sand into the vessel.
- Insert a cotton wick into the wax.
- Leave approximately 1cm of wick exposed above the surface.
- Light the wick and enjoy.
No melting, moulds or traditional candle-making equipment are required.
Do I need to melt Candle Sand?
No. Candle Sand is designed to be poured directly into a suitable vessel without melting.
How deep should the wick go into Candle Sand?
The wick should be inserted securely into the Candle Sand so that it remains upright, with approximately 1cm exposed above the surface before lighting.
Can I use more than one wick?
Yes, larger candle-safe vessels may be suitable for multiple wicks. Wicks should be spaced appropriately so the flames are not positioned too close together.
Always follow candle safety guidance and ensure your vessel is suitable for the number of wicks being used.
How far apart should Candle Sand wicks be?
As a general styling guide, allow approximately 4cm or more between wicks. The exact spacing required will depend on the size and shape of your vessel.
Reusing Candle Sand
Is Candle Sand reusable?
Yes. One of the biggest advantages of Candle Sand is that the unused wax can be refreshed and reused.
How do I reuse Candle Sand?
Once the flame has been extinguished and the wax has cooled completely:
- Remove the small hardened section of wax surrounding the used wick.
- Dispose of the used wick.
- Smooth or refresh the remaining Candle Sand.
- Insert a fresh cotton wick.
- Light again when ready.
Does all of the Candle Sand melt?
No. Only the wax immediately surrounding the burning wick melts during use. The remaining Candle Sand stays loose and can be reused.
Can I move Candle Sand into a different container?
Yes. Once the wax is completely cool, the unused Candle Sand can be transferred into another suitable candle-safe vessel.
Where can I buy replacement Candle Sand wicks?
You can purchase our Cotton Wicks for Candle Sand separately. Each pack contains 20 pre-waxed cotton wicks and is available in 6cm and 10cm sizes.
Candle Sand Burn Time
How long does Candle Sand last?
Our 450g Candle Sand pouch provides approximately 60+ hours of total burn time. Actual burn time will vary depending on the vessel, wick size, number of wicks used and burning conditions.
Does using multiple wicks reduce burn time?
Yes. Using several wicks at the same time will use the wax faster than burning one wick.
How can I make my Candle Sand last longer?
Use only the number of wicks needed for your chosen vessel and extinguish the candle when you no longer need it burning. Once cooled, refresh the wax and add a new wick when required.
Choosing a Candle Sand Container
What containers can I use for Candle Sand?
Candle Sand should be used in a suitable heat-resistant vessel intended to withstand candle heat.
Suitable options may include:
- Glass candle vessels
- Glass cylinders
- Ceramic bowls
- Stone-style vessels
- Metal candle containers
Can Candle Sand be used in any container?
No. The container must be suitable for candle use and able to safely withstand heat.
Avoid containers that could crack, melt, burn or become unstable when exposed to heat.
Can I use Candle Sand in drinking glasses?
Only use glassware that is specifically suitable for candle heat. Everyday drinking glasses are not automatically designed to withstand the temperatures produced by a burning candle.
Can Candle Sand be used in wooden bowls?
We do not recommend using Candle Sand directly in wooden vessels because wood is combustible.
Can Candle Sand be used in ceramic bowls?
Yes, provided the ceramic vessel is suitable for candle use and able to withstand heat safely.
Candle Sand for Weddings & Events
Can Candle Sand be used for wedding centrepieces?
Yes. Candle Sand is ideal for creating elegant wedding and event centrepieces in suitable heat-resistant vessels.
It can be styled in glass cylinders, decorative bowls and vessels of different heights to create coordinated candle displays.
Why is Candle Sand good for weddings?
Candle Sand offers flexibility because the same white wax can be styled across a variety of vessels and table arrangements.
It works particularly well with:
- White and ivory wedding décor
- Neutral and beige tablescapes
- Black and cream styling
- Gold accents
- Modern minimalist weddings
- Luxury event styling
Can Candle Sand be used in tall glass cylinders?
Yes, suitable heat-resistant glass cylinders can create beautiful wedding and event displays.
How much Candle Sand do I need for a wedding?
The quantity required depends on the number and size of your vessels.
We recommend creating one complete centrepiece first and measuring how much Candle Sand it requires. You can then multiply that amount by the number of tables or displays you plan to create.
Do wedding venues allow Candle Sand candles?
Venue policies vary. Always check with your wedding or event venue before using any real candle or open flame.
