In this guide, we share the top candle care tips we've learned over the years.
The First Burn
The first burn of a new candle is crucial for ensuring an even, long-lasting candle experience. When lighting a new candle for the first time, allow it to burn for at least 2-4 hours, or until the entire top layer of wax has melted upto the edges. This helps to establish a consistent wax pool and prevents tunnelling, which can occur if the candle is extinguished before the wax has fully liquefied.
Environmental Factors
The environment in which you burn your candle can greatly impact its performance. Avoid placing candles in direct sunlight, near air vents, or in drafty areas, as these can cause the flame to flicker and the wax to melt unevenly. Instead, choose a stable, level surface away from any potential hazards.
Caring for Your Wick
Properly maintaining the wick is essential for a clean, even burn. Before lighting your candle, use a wick trimmer to ensure the wick is trimmed to 1/4 inch. This helps prevent the wick from becoming too long and creating a large, sooty flame. Additionally, be sure to remove any wick trimmings or debris from the wax pool before relighting the candle.
Container Candles
For container candles, it's important to burn the candle until the wax has liquefied to the edges of the container. This helps prevent tunnelling and ensures an even, consistent burn.
Avoid burning your candle for more than 4 hours at a time or 2 hours for smaller candles to prevent the container from overheating and expands the life span of the candle. When the candle is nearly finished.
Extinguish candles before they burn down to the bottom of the container prevent overheating or damage.
Pillar Candles
First Burn: When lighting a new pillar candle for the first time, allow it to burn long enough to for the melted wax to reach the edge of the candle. This may take several hours, depending on the size of the candle. This will prevent tunneling, will help the candle burn evenly and avoid wasting wax.
Subsequent Burns: For subsequent burns, always allow the wax pool to reach the edges of the candle before extinguishing the flame. Avoid burning for more then 3-4 hours at a time less for smaller pillar candles.
Sculpture Candles
For our sculpture candles, which are designed as decorative pieces, we recommend following the Care Information if you do decide to burn them. Our candles are more suitable as decorative pieces. Due to the unique designs, we DO NOT GUARANTEE that your candle will burn out completely.
Scent and Colour Variations
When ordering a scented candle, the colour of the candle may vary slightly from the palette. This is due to the natural ingredients used in our candle-making process, which can result in slight variations in hue. Similarly, the scent throw may also vary depending on factors such as the size of the candle, the room temperature, and the individual's sense of smell. Rest assured that these variations do not impact the quality or performance of the candle.
